A Brief History of Early Black Friday Deals

I’ve been keeping track of Cyber Monday and Black Friday clothing sales since 2012. Over the past 15 years, there has been a trend towards ever-earlier Black Friday sales. After stores overcame the stigma of opening on Thanksgiving in the mid-2000s, the pandemic accelerated a trend towards very early Black Friday deals as Amazon, Walmart and Target led the way with “Black Friday pricing” as far back as October.

Today, I’ve found that around 80% of companies I monitor offer Early Black Friday sales. Many of the best sales drop the Sunday or Monday before Thanksgiving, though a number of sales begin much earlier in November.

Early Black Friday 2025 Clothing Sales, Discounts and Coupons

Here are the best 2025 Early Black Friday clothing deals I’ve found so far. (Keep in mind that some discounts will change.)

1. Nordstrom has early Black Friday deals of up to 60% off. (I’ve generally found their early Black Friday deals to be pretty terrific.)
2. Ministry of Supply (stylish work-leisure and comfort-focused clothing for women and men) takes 25% off sitewide with code B25 as of 11/16. (No exclusions, enter code at checkout.) Nab a free Doppler Rain Cap with purchases over $400.
3. Macy’s is dropping “epic” early Black Friday deals every Friday in November.
4. Indochino‘s Black Friday sale started early on November 6. Take 30% off sitewide and find custom suits for women and men from $399.
5. Walmart’s early “Black Friday deals and more” sale has discounts on a range of apparel.
6. Adidas is offering first access to its early Black Friday 2025 deals through its adiClub. Sign up and log into your account for up to 60% off select styles as of 11/14.
7. Saks Off 5th has a “Black Friday early access sale” as of 11/15. Take an extra 25% off orders of $200.
8. edikted, one of my daughter’s favorite fast fashion sites, has “pre-Black Friday” sales of up to 80% off as of 11/15, though it’s hard to tell how that differs from their frequent sales throughout the year.
9. Roots (warm and fuzzy Canadian-based clothing retailer for men and women) gives 30% off full-priced items and an extra 30% off sale styles during its early Black Friday sale. Email subscribers get first dibs.
10. Bombas (socially-conscious socks and basics for men and women) takes 25% off everything until 11/18. (In 2024, Bombas took 20% off everything during its regular Black Friday sale, so stay tuned.)
11. Primary (solid basics in a wide variety of colors for men, women and kids) has 40% off during its season-wide Black Friday sale. Look to Primary for Holiday PJs, Puffers & Outerwear, and Holiday Outfits.
12. Bespoke Post (clothing, gear and thoughtful Christmas gifts for guys) has a series of early Black Friday sale drops throughout the month of November.  From 11/13-11/15, get up to 60% off on sale items. (Check their website for future deals.)
13. Grayers takes 30% off sitewide with code BIGSALE during Black Friday 2025 as of 11/15. This is a great sale, but not as good as its 2024 BFCM sale that took 40%. See my picks from the Grayers’ sale.
14. Western Rise (men’s athleisure and everyday wear) has 30% off sitewide as of 11/15 during its early Black Friday sale.
15. Companion Denim (menswear) has 20% off storewide.
16. Paisley & Gray takes 35% off select fall styles including outerwear, suits and shits for men during their early Black Friday sale as of 11/14. (But during their 2024 sale, you could save up to 50% sitewide.)
17. Black Lapel (custom suits for men) has Black Friday early access as of 11/15 with 10% off your order with code NEWBL10; 15% off your order of $600+ with code NEWBL15; and 20% off your order of $1200+ with code NEWBL20.
18. SHEIN, the Chinese fast-fashion retailer, has up to 95% off during its Black Friday sneak peek sale as of 11/15.

Early Black Friday Shoes and Sneaker Deals

Here are my favorite Early Black Friday 2025 deals on trainers, dress shoes, casual footwear and more for women and men.

1. Wolf and Shepherd, one of my favorite destinations for dress sneakers for women and men, is taking 30% off sitewide with code ACCESS during its early Black Friday sale as of 11/15.
2. Beckett Simonon is one of my favorite options for shoes and sneakers. They have a series of early Black Friday sales, starting with “Sneaker Fest” that sees 2 pairs for $199 and ends November 13. Their $199 “Boot Promo” offer runs between November 14 to November 20. Beckett Simonon’s Biggest Black Friday Event sees the company offer 2 pairs of shoes across its selections for men and women for $329 from November 21 to December 4.
3. Oliver Cabell is dropping 50% off during its Early Black Friday 2025 sale as of 11/16 with up to 50% off select styles of sneakers and shoes for women and men. I LOVE my Oliver Cabell leather trainers and driving shoes.
4. Scarosso has 25% off its sleek shoes for women and men made by Italian artisans during this Berlin-based startup’s early Black Friday sale with code BLACK-FRIDAY as of 11/16.
5. Allbirds had a “Black Friday preview” sale with up to 50% Off Top Styles from 11/7 through 11/12. (Allbirds had 30% off sitewide during their Black Friday 2024 sale.)
6. Vessi has at least 25% off — and up to 55% off — sitewide for Black Friday 2025 during their biggest sale of the year.
7. Cobbler Union offers up to 50% off select dress shoes for men as of 11/15 during its Early Black Friday sale. Sign up for emails to get alerted to additional flash sales.
8. Lennertson (Belgian-based shoemaker for men) offers 20% off orders of 400 Euros (but watch those U.S. tariffs!)

Early Black Friday Deals on Luggage, Backpacks, Gear and Home Goods

1. AWAY Travel launched its 2025 Black Friday sale early with 25% off plus an additional 10% off orders over $750 as of 11/16. (I’m a happy customer of their carry-on and pet carrier.)
2. CalPak has 25% off all luggage, 20% off sitewide, and up to 60% selections, during its early Black Friday 2025 sale.
3. KNKG (bags, backpacks and luggage) takes 20-50% off sitewide from 11/12 to 2/1.
4. Herschel Supply Co. is asking folks who want early access to their Black Friday deals to sign up for emails (as of 11/14).
5. Brooklinen takes 25% off its luxury bedding and more during its Black Friday 2025 early access sale (as of 11/18).
6. Article, the minimalist furniture shop, has 40% off select styles. (We love our modern, deep-blue knit Article couch.)

Not Every Early Black Friday Deal is Worth Shopping

It’s essential to look at the details and do some detective work to determine whether an early or “pre-Black Friday sale” is really a great bargain. Some brands, like Grayers, have a history of posting their best Black Friday sale weeks ahead of time. Others vary their discounts over time. (For instance, Madewell offered 30% off during a “Black Friday event” several days before Thanksgiving 2023, but dropped a 50% sitewide sale that Cyber Monday.)

Compare Black Friday Deals from Years’ Past

One way to see if you’re getting a good deal is to compare with previous years’ Black Friday sales. A number of online sites, social media posts and Reddit threads will have mentions of prior year sales and deals from specific companies.
