Brooklyn-based online vintage and handmade e-commerce platform Etsy features an amazing selection of quality menswear clothing, accessories and gifts for men including neckties, pocket squares, colorful socks, lapel pins, electronics and whisky decanters.
This may not be immediately obvious on a site where nearly 90 percent of storefronts are run by women and when search results for menswear are cluttered with polyester tragedies and gag gifts.
Modern Fellows produced this guide to curate amazing options for the best menswear, men’s ties, socks, cufflinks and other accessories and #giftsforhim on Etsy from amazing women entrepreneurs across the platform.
Melissa Lodge runs the Etsy online shop for FrederickThomas, a London-based shop selling handmade men ties in linen, cotton, tweed, wool & more, from a black and pin spot velvet style tie to a debonair mustard gold bird print cotton tie. The company also sells 100% British manufactured wool tweed ties by Henry Harris Tweed Ties. One thing that stands out: Frederick Thomas’ designs are definitely different but not gaudy. Also: FrederickThomas advertises that made-to-measure custom shirting is coming soon.
Founder Tracy Tran of Linked Socks operates her Etsy storefront from the San Francisco Bay area where she makes super-cool, affordable and innovative socks for men, women and children. Their patent-pending innovation? You can flip the socks’ tags up and snap up the included buttons to keep the socks together. (You wash and dry Linked Socks with the buttons attached.) No more losing socks in the hamper or dryer.
Lindsey Thomas — a “strong, creative business owner who can make a living staying at home with… two crazy boys” — runs ClassyandCluttered on Etsy from the town of Huntington, West Virginia. While her store focuses on a number of different items for home and baby, she offers an intriguing and surprisingly affordable selection of handmade linen neckties for men, teens and boys in bright red and muted blues that sport beautiful texture. She can adjust the width and length of the ties and is open to custom orders for particular patterns and sizes. Her linen ties run about $20 or under as of this writing. Even cuter? You can buy matching ties for dad and his boy.
Tammy, who runs B*jeweled Vintage from Waterdown, Canada, utilizes vintage “bits and pieces” in her one-of-a-kind cufflinks and other jewelry pieces for men and women.
Hailing from the city of Přerov in the Czech Republic, Anna and her husband run bubibubities, which features gorgeous handmade ties for men as well as suspenders (or braces), pocket squares and bow ties for women. Their Etsy storefront features a diverse selection of cotton, wool and silk neckties, cotton print pocket squares and more in unique patterns that range from conservative to daring.
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Pink and Dink offers some pretty dapper bow ties, neck ties, cufflinks and pocket squares for men. Shop owner Tamara offers interesting men’s accessories like a handmade linen and cotton brown houndstooth tie with a slim width of 6.5cm (2.5 inches) as well as a stylish handmade red checkered skinny tie.
Since 2012, husband and wife Andrey & Alina Samoylov have welcomed customers to their Etsy storefront for HOLMESTIES, a family-run business based in the Ukraine that offers high-quality handmade neckties and bow ties. The colors of their ties really stand out from charcoal grey to chili pepper red to a (surprisingly) appealing mustard yellow. Also spectacular: Customers can fully customize their ties by select various widths and lengths.
Entrepreneur Kari Craft leads the Crafty Momma Company, a small business on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia, which specializes in “personalized socks for special soles.” (Get it?) She sews special messages on already-stylish socks — great for groomsmen socks as well as sorority or fraternity groups.
