Peek inside sustainable fashion brand Nisolo’s Brick and Mortar presence in Washington, DC.

About Nisolo

I’ve enjoyed getting to know Nisolo, an impressive direct-to-consumer footwear and apparel brand. Co-founded in 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee by entrepreneurs Zoe Cleary and Patrick Woodyard, Nisolo touts its “wholelistic approach to social and environmental responsibility.”

The ethical fashion startup has made a name for itself in the sustainable fashion industry, garnering glowing praise from the likes of Fast Company and The Good Trade.

While Nisolo began as a digital first brand, it has slowly started opening Brick-and-Mortar stores in select U.S. cities. Currently, Nisolo maintains physical stores in Boston, New York City, Nashville and Washington, DC.

Inside Nisolo’s Georgetown Shop

I had a chance to look around Nisolo’s Washington, DC store, which is set in a remarkably narrow storefront along the main shopping drag of M Street NW in Georgetown. (All of the photos in this article are from my visit to the shop.)

Nisolo’s sustainability framework is on display throughout the well-lit store.

So are Nisolo’s wares, which include flats, sandals, boots, and mules for women, and a tight collection of classic Oxford shoes, leather boots, casual sneakers and loafers for men.

(I bought a pair of Nisolo’s unique black Oxfords, similar to the ones pictured above, that feature a striking natural wood contrast sole, which are comfortable and sleek, and pair well with business casual outfits.)

Nisolo’s shoes typically range in price from about $100 to $300, depending on the product and whether you can catch one of their occasional sales, which can knock up to 30% or more off the retail price.

A selection of Nisolo’s accessories are also on display at the store, including handbags, wallets, belts, and jewelry, and crafted with the same commitment to sustainability and ethical production as their footwear.

I enjoyed speaking with the friendly team at the store, who were happy to answer questions, not pushy at all, and who were kind to let me wander around and take photos for this article.

Visit Nisolo’s DMV store at 3251 M St NW, Washington, DC.

Have You Been to Nisolo’s Store?

If you have checked out Nisolo in person at one of their stores, I’d enjoy hearing your impressions. Please leave you thoughts in the comments.
