Proper Cloth to Open Showroom in Washington, DC

New York-based custom clothing company Proper Cloth is coming to downtown Washington, DC in 2025.

Proper Cloth will open its first showroom outside of New York at 1307 New York Ave NW in Washington DC’s downtown core in 2025. The storefront will be in the Herald Building, which is described as “Washington, D.C.’s first hospitality-infused office property” (and which looks more like a hip lounge than an office building). It’s tucked into a relatively quiet street, about a 5 minute walk from the Metro Center train stop.

This will give guys in DC the chance to get a feel for the company in person and to create their first “custom size” to ensure that their clothing fits. While I love the convenience of online custom clothing, it’s nice to be able to have some assistance to be confident that your new custom clothing is going to fit well.

The DC showroom will also be a place to tweak the fit of a previous order, see fabrics and examples of their clothing, and get recommendations from their team on design details, and styles.

Inside Proper Cloth’s Showrooms

Proper Cloth currently maintains showrooms in Midtown Manhattan and Soho and is opening another one in Chicago as well. I’ve enjoyed visiting their Soho location (as well as dropping by their long-shuttered space in a co-working station when they were earlier on in their journey).

The showroom is a relaxed space with cold brew coffee on tap (at least in New York) where you can get to know the brand and browse their collection of garments and fabric swatches from the likes of Albini, Baird McNutt, Canclini, David & John Anderson, Duca Visconti, Grandi & Rubinelli, Thomas Mason and Reda.
