Explore some of the best places to find v-neck sweaters for men in merino, cashmere and more.
There may be no greater asset to a wardrobe than a sweater, and all the better when they’re men’s v-neck sweaters. Let’s look at why v-neck sweaters are so indispensable and where to get yours.
In search of v-neck sweaters for men
It’s undeniable that crewneck sweaters owe their immense popularity to their chameleon-like qualities; they can go dress-casual or totally informal, shifting from workwear to weekend wear with ease. But if you want a touch of formality with your sweater, you turn to the v-neck, showing the world your style with glimpses of a tie or an elegant dress shirt.
This is not to say v-necks sweaters can’t have fun — when paired with a t-shirt, a v-neck can compete with a crewneck in the most laid-back of situations. Maybe you’re looking for whimsical fun with some color and a plunging neckline, to keep things conservative with basic black and a traditional cut, or comfy charm with a loosely knit jumper.
Where to find the best v-neck sweaters for men
There are lots of styles to choose from and lots (and lots) of places selling v-neck sweaters. There are almost too many places to choose from, which can make finding the best v-neck sweaters difficult. To help you sort through the overload, here are eight of the spots that are your best bets for finding that perfect v-neck sweater.
Bonobos
Founded by entrepreneurs Andy Dunn and Brian Spaly in 2007, Bonobos began as an online-only menswear line with a mission to help guys find pants that fit. The New York City-based brand has since expanded to offer a full range of upscale clothing for men, including a nice selection of sweaters.
With merino wool’s natural resilience, smart-looking v-necks from Bonobos can go in the washing machine without the worry of shrinkage.
Bonobos is an excellent example of a stylish men’s clothing brand helping guys dress sharp in the digital age. The menswear startup went brick-and-mortar in 2012 with their innovative Guideshops, locations where men can try on their attire before making an e-tail purchase. Choose slim or standard-fit v-neck sweaters in go-to colors such as black, grey, charcoal, and navy blue, plus more unique shades including pomegranate-hued heather garnet, and subtle oat brown.
For price, selection, and an integrated online experience, Bonobos gets high marks as one of the best overall choices for v-neck sweater shopping. (Bonobos is also an excellent destination for shawl collar and cardigan sweaters for men.)
Nordstrom Rack
If you seek affordable high-quality sweaters, look no further than Nordstrom Rack, the offspring of the luxury chain Nordstrom that’s been offering reduced-price attire since 1973. V-neck sweaters for men from coveted names including Theory, Billy Reid, Rodd and Gunn, and Brooks Brothers can be found at huge discounts, with price tags that are often more than 50% lower than retail.
You’ll find a solid selection of v-neck sweaters for fellows at Nordstrom Rack, from cashmere-and-wool blends to merino wool sweaters and cotton pullovers. However, the women’s collection of v-neck sweaters eclipses that of the men’s, with top womenswear names including St. John, Lafayette 148, L’Agence, and 360 Cashmere among the dozens of offerings.
As you’re shopping at Nordstrom Rack, you can expect these high-end v-necks at lower-end prices.
Ssense
Brothers Bassel, Firas, and Rami Atallah founded Ssense in 2003 with the goal of making the fledgling world of luxury e-tail fashion more accessible, offering streetwear and lesser-known independent labels along with established high-end brands.
Pronounced “essence,” the Montreal-based outfit is now a global platform, serving more than 100 countries in multiple languages — what they call their “global niche.”
With a staggering number of brands, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to luxury v-neck sweaters at this one-stop shop. Choose from Alexander McQueen in sophisticated cashmere and Burberry in earth-toned wool, to a Tom Ford knit, or a Thom Browne cable v-neck, and so much more.
If you’re unsatisfied with your home-delivered sweater, you’ve got 30 days to return it to Ssense.
SHEIN
Founded in 2008, SHEIN promises to deliver affordable fashion to younger shoppers, driven by an ever-rotating catalog that’s favored by teens and young millennials.
With sales that skyrocketed during the coronavirus pandemic, Shein rose to become the world’s largest online-only clothing brand — helped by top TikTok and Instagram influencers and celebrity tie-ins such as virtual performances from Lil Nas X and Katy Perry.
But price is what keeps the young folks buying; you can often find deals on basic knit v-neck sweaters for $10 and under. Even Shein’s higher-end offerings are affordable, with only a few sweaters going over the $50 mark.
With these prices, free shipping on orders over $49, and free returns, it’s not hard to see why Shein is so popular for cheap, fast fashion.
H&M
Speaking of affordable, H&M has been offering cheap, fast fashion since 1947.
H&M started at a shop in Västerås, Sweden, and has grown to become one of the planet’s biggest clothing retailers. Some star power has helped, such as associations with Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, and Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, along with designer collaborations with Versace, Kenzo, Karl Lagerfield, and other fashion luminaries.
Celebrities and notable fashionistas take a back seat to price with H&M, which offers fine-knit cotton v-neck sweaters to U.S. online shoppers for as low as $19.99.
While menswear makes a fine showing, women have more choices in v-neck sweaters, ranging from ribbed sweater vests to collared sweaters and cropped cardigans, all at H&M’s famously low prices.
Uniqlo
Originally called “Unique Clothing Warehouse,” Uniqlo has shortened its name since its first store opened in Hiroshima, Japan in 1984, though the company that focuses on casual, functional wear has roots as a textile manufacturer going back decades earlier. Today, Uniqlo is one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, owing much of its success to a wide variety of high-quality and affordable fashion.
How about an extra fine merino wool v-neck sweater in the $50 range, or a cashmere v-neck for under $100? Buy in-store at one of Uniqlo’s locations all across the United States, or go online and take advantage of low-cost shipping and free returns within 30 days.
Which men’s v-neck sweaters will you choose?
With these eight places alone, you have hundreds of v-neck sweaters to choose from. And is it possible that your favorite place for v-neck sweaters didn’t make the list? No matter which style you choose or where you choose it from, know that a fine v-neck sweater just might be the best friend your wardrobe has.
